REVIEW: Kellogg’s Snickerdoodle Pop-Tarts

In their early testing days, before they even had a name, Pop-Tarts were referred to internally as “fruit scones.”

Now I’m pretty sure they could open an entire bakery just with the all the garbage they’ve stuffed into Pop-Tarts…

Anyway, your latest garbage scone is Snickerdoodle.

While I won’t let it sour my opinion on the taste, you would have to actively try REALLY HARD in order to make a Pop-Tart less appealing than the Snickerdoodle Pop-Tart. Instead of opting for the tried-and-true icing that often separates good Pop-Tarts from bad ones, Kellogg’s opted for a crunchy cinnamon sugar topping that looks like a disease I haven’t seen before. Not helping their case is the fact that they’re uncharacteristically soft and fragile, collapsing under its own weight no matter how careful you are handling it.

However, I don’t eat cookies for their looks. I eat them to destroy mine.

The good news is that Snickerdoodle Pop-Tarts taste better than they look. While I admit it may seem painfully redundant to have a Brown Sugar Cinnamon, a Cinnamon Roll, and a Snickerdoodle Pop-Tart, this one does give off its own vibe. You get a light cinnamon sugar flavor, but also some of that vanilla as well.

I think toasting is the way to go here. I always maintain that the toasted dough tastes better and makes the Pop-Tart taste less floury. But in addition to that, the warm sugary filling just gets that little bit of boost like when you’re caramelizing sugar. I’m getting some McDonald’s Apple Pie vibes, minus the apple of course.

The main problem here is that the Snickerdoodle Pop-Tarts are too simple and uninteresting. The cinnamon sugar crystals don’t add as much flavor as frosting does to the frosted Pop-Tarts. And for my money, the Brown Sugar Cinnamon and Cinnamon Roll Pop-Tarts are just flat out better-tasting.


In summary, this is the worst fruit scone I’ve ever had.

Burning Questions:

  1. Aren’t Snickerdoodles a Christmas cookie? I thought so.
  2. They why did they release in July? I don’t know.
  3. Well, I hate them. I know.
